Family Practice Dentistry

OUR PHILOSOPHY—

We appreciate the apprehensions a patient may have, but you know the comfort of getting a clean bill of health from your dentist. The goal of everyone in our office is to provide painless dental care in an expedient manner and in as stress-free a setting as possible.

One way to make your dental care easier is to approach it in an organized manner. We find that people usually think of their dental care as an expensive, on-going, endless process. This is frustrating and is one reason that people, from time to time, ignore their dental work.

In our office, we first address any pressing problem a new patient may have. We then like to develop an organized treatment plan that will leave the patient's dental health in a state that will only require routine maintenance in the future. If the treatment plan is involved, its completion may be spread over several months or even years. By treating the most acute problems first, the patient can be kept out of trouble until the entire treatment is completed. If the treatment plan takes a while to complete, at least the patient has a goal and an end in sight. This can preclude the feeling by the patient that dental treatment is a never-ending process.

An organized plan of treatment also allows the patient to budget funds for their dental health care. We can proceed with treatment as the patient's budget allows, again solving the most pressing problem first. This helps avoid financial emergencies as well as dental emergencies.

Our intention with an organized treatment plan is to provide the patient with a state of dental health which only requires routine maintenance in the future. It's great to not be worried about dental problems.

Dentistry is an exciting profession. Every patient presents us with a new challenge. Modern dental technology changes virtually every day. Today we are able to provide more options for patients in a more comfortable way than ever before. Don't allow your past dental experiences to prevent you from having the dental health you deserve in the future.

Commitment to Appointment Poilcy

If you make an appointment with our office, we expect you to show for that appointment. When a patient does not show or cancels less than 24 hours it strongly effects our office. It prevents us from getting in other patients that want to be seen. We work very hard at respecting our patients time and we hope that you will do the same. As a courtesy, we confirm appointments 1-2 days before they are scheduled.

Family Practice Dentistry

Brushing and flossing in the early years.

Parents should begin brushing a child's teeth as soon as the first tooth erupts through the gum. A childsize brush with soft, rounded or polished bristles is recommended, and should be replaced when the bristles become worn. A pea-size amount of fluoride toothpaste can be used after the child is old enough not to swallow it. By age four or five, children should be able to brush their own teeth twice a day with supervision to make sure they are doing a thorough job.

By age seven, children should be able to brush alone. Flossing should begin when any two teeth touch. At about age eight, the child should be able to floss under supervision. Check with your dentist to determine if your child has the proper skills to brush and floss properly.
